Fred J. Smith did not exist at the property until late in 1911, when he relocated to the Derby property from another failed mining operation, in an adjacent mining district, outside of Prescott, The Centipede mine. This was during the same time George Young placed a wanted ad in the Republican newspaper to locate a man and a woman to ‘tend to the stock’.
